Sitting in Denver now, Leaving for DFW Tonight

We left Columbus OH on Friday morning and headed back west to Salt Lake City UT. A relatively uneventful trip with the exception of the wind. That is, I suppose, the worst part of going west this time of year. There is almost always a headwind or worse yet a side wind out of the North. They are both fuel mileage killers but the side wind can blow you over, especially as light as our loads normally are, so I personally try to avoid that whenever possible.

We arrived in Slat Lake City on Saturday afternoon and were promptly asked if we could rescue a load in Wendover NV, from a driver stranded who was out of hours. Because we were both exhausted we declined that load. I just didn't think I could go another 50 miles much less another 115 to Wendover then 570 more on to Sacramento.

We made it to dinner and then promptly to bed by 7pm EDT. We awakened fresh and ready to go on Sunday morning. Got up, cleaned up, had breakfast and headed out to do some much needed shopping for groceries, prescription medications, a new phone because the old one only lasted about 30 minutes on a charge, etc.

Dispatch called at about 1230 or so EDT and asked us to run to Denver Sunday evening. We accepted that assignment and were glad to have something to do out of SLC.

We got here, to Denver, this morning at about 0500 EDT and I had some emails I had to send. It seems the company, to whom we are leased, wants to do an article on the 9-12 truck and it's mission in life. Obviously very humbled, yet excited, I answered the questions the writer sent and sent several pictures to him as well. I ended up sending the picture files 3 times in total because the 1st time, he couldn't get to the website I used to send them due to company IT privacy and security issues, the second time, I attached them all in an email attachment, I received an email back from their server that the file was too large for them to receive, and the third time was a charm. Of course, I had to send 7 different emails with a picture or two attached to each, but what the heck, it's only time, right?

Finally, I got to bed at about 0800 and didn't get up until 1330 or so. Man did I need that. We just took a call from dispatch wanting to know if we would pull a load to Dallas tonight. We have to go to the airport both here and in Dallas to pick up and drop the load but we accepted it anyway. You see, we really don't like running customer to customer freight, we've been somewhat spoiled with the terminal to terminal loads but when freight is slow and you need to run, you do what you must to make a living.

We are to pick up the load this evening at 2000 local time and will deliver in Dallas tomorrow afternoon. We are hoping for a Columbus load or something of that nature out of Dallas tomorrow evening, but we will see when we get there what they have. they usually treat us pretty well out of Dallas. Actually, the entire company treats us pretty darned well, it just appears as if we are going through a "retraining" phase with some newer dispatchers in the Sacramento hub. We'll get them brought around though, all in due time.

Waiting For Dispatch From Atlanta

We arrived in Atlanta yesterday at about 1630, dropped our trailer, and turned in our paperwork. It was raining a bit and chilly when we got here. Tina decided she'd do laundry, so she went to the driver's lounge and I sat in the truck, like any and all self respecting males might.

We have yet to get a dispatch out of here. Freight is very slow right now. We just received a message from dispatch, via qualcomm, and it doesn't look very good for today either.

Another friend couple that we know, drivers for this company, came by here last night on there way back to their house in Chattanooga, Tn. They had been in Florida for a short vacation and just happened to be coming through. We had a great visit with the couple and always enjoy their company. He is a former military cook and she used to work for Covenant as a driver qualifications verifier. They now run as a team for this company.

Tina has been making some crafts to sell, over at a friends website called Conservabid.
She has made several items but for now we are posting an item she has named the Scream-n-Fling Doll.

Below is a slightly comedic infomercial about Tina's Scream-n-Fling Dolls.

08/06, Martinsville, VA bound

As we arrived at the Miami terminal this morning at about 0815, we received a message from dispatch, apologizing for last night's load cancellation and offering us a load to Martinsville, VA, then to Los Angeles, CA. Needless to say, we gladly, accepted the load, if for no other reason to get the heck out of Florida. This place sucks for freight this time of year.

The load to Martinsville will leave at about 6:00 pm tonight out of Miami and deliver in Martinsville by Saturday morning. From there, we will run an empty trailer to Charlotte, NC and our load to Los Angeles will leave from there on Saturday evening or real early Sunday morning.

Major cities to Martinsville, VA will be Jacksonville, Fl, Savanah, GA, Columbia, SC, Charlotte, NC, Winston Salem, NC and Finally Martinsville, VA. From there it is back to Charlotte, NC for a bit of a wait.

When our load to Los Angeles is ready, Whatever time that might be, we will travel through Asheville, NC to Knoxville, TN, Nashville, TN, Memphis, TN, Little Rock, AR, Oklahoma City OK, Amarillo TX, Tucumcari NM, Albuquerqui NM, Flagstaff AZ, Barstow CA, then on into LA or actually Carson, CA.

I will certainly update times and stops as information is available. I do know that there are a lot of readers of these posts along that route, we'd love to see some of you along the way and get you all to sign the truck to show your support.

Check back here and follow us on twitter for updates.

08/05, Just Spoke With Dispatch

Well, we were hoping for a call from dispatch before daylight with a load to sgtsomewhere, anywhere. They do that often when they have extra freight that they couldn't get on another load. That didn't happen. We are still at home.

I called to check in with dispatch this morning, actually, just a few minutes ago. Got a hold of dispatch and they offered a load to Dallas, TX, actually Irvine, TX, for 4:00 am on Thursday. I accepted the load, gleefully. I think, once we get away from the house, we will be alright. They usually try to keep us moving as long as we aren't in our home domicile terminal. At any rate, we'll see, hopefully the load won't cancel due to a lack of freight.

In addition, an update on my "incident report" from NMSP. I have not yet received the report from SGT. Doty. I was told, upon initial contact by email, that the report would be accomplished, and approved, for release within 72 hours of the incident. To date, it has been 11 days or 264 hours. Allowing for weekends, and only counting the total number of 8 hour shifts available since the incident less weekends, that would allow the NMSP a total of 88 hours avail to "accomplish and approve" the report. Now, I understand not being able to put a report like that together in a matter of minutes, but 88 hours might be excessive and 264 hours is utterly ridiculous. Not only have I not received notification of the reports completion, I can't even get SGT Doty of the NMSP to answer my emails anymore. I think I'm being dodged. I'll keep you posted.

Now, for another subject. I think we are going to try and arrange a meetup/cruise in support of taxpayer protests, and against health care takeover by our tyrannical government at each city we are in for a day or so. I will be contacting, or trying to contact,Tea Party Organizers in each city. I can almost always give 18-24 hours notice of our arrival and maybe we can arrange a gathering and subsequent cruise around town with my truck leading and a bunch of cars following with signs all over their cars to raise awareness and get people involved with our movement. My point in telling you this is for you to pass the word to as many folks as you know. Maybe you can get some organizers on board with this and to read this post and we can get this movement in high gear before September 12, for 912dc.org.

Another thing is that I am pricing t-shirts and posters and other paraphernalia to help raise funds for our project. Plese let me know what you think of this and whether you or your friends would be interested in these items or what items in which you may be interested.

As always, if you can find it in you budget to make a contribution to this mission to help defray the costs of printing, paper, pocket constitutions, "Common Sense" books, etc., it would be greatly appreciated. You can use any of the donate buttons here or at Stop the Destruction of America. Any and all contributions would be of help in our endeavor to WAKE UP AMERICA.

Kansas City Load Cancelled, 71/24 9:00 am

We received a call from dispatch this morning at about 9:00 am and found out there wasn't enough freight for our load to run to Kansas City and most of the loads that were to go out this morning to MOST destinations were going to cancel. Not real sure what they will give us tonight but I'll post here when I know.

Just as a side note, no or slow freight, no or slow commerce, no or slow economy. I mean...I'm just sayin'.
